Industrial Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers will often provide the best overall economic performance in terms of efficient heat transfer and are suited for use with hot water, cold water or steam as the primary medium. The efficiency is due in part to the size of the heat transfer area in proportion to the volume of the media in the heat exchanger, and also to the corrugation of the plates, which causes turbulent flow conditions.
Plates are manufactured as standard from either AISI 304 / 316 stainless steel or titanium to a thickness of 0.6 mm, although plate thickness options of 0.8 mm or 1.0 mm are also available if required. The exchangers are fitted with EPDM or NBR gaskets with the frames constructed from painted carbon steel.
An extensive range of sizes of plate heat exchanger is available ranging from those models, which deliver flow rates of 0.7 liters per second to the largest units which are capable of flow rates of up to 819 liters per second (2,950,000 liters per hour).
This range is also designed for flexibility enabling the number of plates, the type and the number of flow paths to be varied, so that a heat exchanger can be manufactured according to a particular application in terms of power rating, operating temperature and pressure drop.
Industrial Frame
The compactly designed Industrial Plate Heat Exchangers range is of a high quality build and is engineered for easy inspection. The units feature stainless steel AISI 304 / 316 plates and EPDM gaskets as standard, with other materials available dependent on the processing media. The gaskets are arranged so that the two media are directed into the alternate channels created by the plates. A double seal arrangement around the two ports ensures that if fluid leaks it passes through the interspace direct into the atmosphere, avoiding cross contamination.
Industrial Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger
On an Industrial Plate Heat Exchanger the plate pack consists of a number of herringbone patterned, pressed heat transfer plates. These are assembled in an inverse formation to create two sets of parallel channels, one for each liquid. Since the herringbone patterns point in opposite directions a large number of points of support are achieved, creating a lattice in each channel. This provides a high level of turbulence, which in turn leads to an elevated rate of heat transfer.
All units are computer-designed in-house and are calculated to obtain the correct thermal length for the heat transfer duty required, within specific parameters. Two types of thermal length plates, high and low theta, are available so that unit sizes can be optimised across a spectrum of duties. By mixing the two types of theta plate, the most cost-effective solution can be provided. The Plate Heat Exchangers are also of a very flexible design so that multi-section units consisting of two or more plate packs separated by intermediate pressure plates or C-plates are possible.
