The Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger or SPHE is a welded heat exchanger, single channel, and its efficiency is all over the world well known.
The Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger is made of 2 concentric channels on which spacer pins are welded to make the channel's gaps. Each channel gap and the width of the channels are selected to meet each Customer's specific requirement and working conditions. It permits to take into account the flow rates, the sizes of the particules for fouling fluids and the pressure drops. These spacer pins facilitate turbulent flow in each channel.
At the beginning, the Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger has been mainly used in the pulp and paper industry, where there were frequent fouling problems with the classical shell and tubes (or multi channels heat exchangers) due to fibers in the effluents. During these last 20 years, the Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger has become essential in fields as various as Refineries, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Environment, owing to its thermal efficiency, its strength and its versatile design:
